Has Things in Common is a DNA curated exhibition, showcasing a small conglomerate of the collaborative duo Parker Branch’s 6-year collection of “things”. Artists Anna Madelska and Jason Hallows explore the subjective versus objective purpose, display and interpretation of a “thing”. Expectantly laid out before the viewer, the object’s engage in a ‘show and tell’ dialogue, simultaneously feeding and relying on our imagination. The meticulous care and consideration with which each object is handled mimics a museum-like method of display, investing within each “thing” an inherent sense of importance. Mingling the everyday with the sacred in miniature sanctoriums, Has Things in Common causes the viewer to question the validity of the sacred and nostalgia invested within objects, while also exploring how and why objects gain status of ‘more than a thing’.
